„Early neonatal outcomes in extremely preterm infants during 2005-2015“

Objective: To analyze early neonatal outcomes in extremely preterm infants, born in 2005-2015 at Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kauno klinikos. Research tasks: 1. To evaluate early neonatal outcomes; 2. To compare the early neonatal outcomes of infants in different gestational age (GA) groups; 3. To compare the early neonatal outcomes of infants in different birth weight (BW) groups; 4. To compare the early neonatal outcomes of infants born in different years; Methodology: The retrospective study included all preterm deliveries between 22/0 and 27/6 weeks gestational age (WGA) and with BW II°. BPD had 75% at 22 WGA, 81.3% - 23 WGA, 59.1% - 24 WGA, 44.8% - 25 WGA, 23.4% - 26 WGA, 13.3% - 27 WGA (p=0,001). ROP had 56.3% - 23 WGA, 38.6% - 24 WGA, 29.3% - 25 WGA, 15.6% - 26 WGA, 13.3% - 27 WGA (p=0,001). IVH>II° had 6.7% - 23 WGA, 16.3% - 24 WGA, 28.1% - 25 WGA, 9.3% - 26 WGA, 5.2% - 27 WGA (p=0,002). As the BW of the newborn increased, survival rate increased as well (p=0,001). 20% survived in group 750g group BPD had 25.7%, NNR - 17%, PVL - 31% (pIIº, 10% - NEC. 33.6% survived to discharge without major neonatal morbidity. Probability to die is 13.46 times greater for 22 WGA infants (comparing with 27 WGA), 10.25 for 23 WGA infants and 6.82 for 24 WGA. Lower GA infants more often had BPD, ROP, IVH>II°. As the BW of the newborn increases, survival rate increases as well. Infants with lower BW statistically more often had BPD, ROP, PVL. During 2005-2015 the survival rate of extremely preterm neonates increased from 35.5 to 73.9 percent. The rate of BPD, ROP, PVL during these 11 years increased
